Just as Dahn Pahrs opened up the season with a series of challenges for all MoM racers, I am going to close it with a series of thank yous to all the folks who made this season possible. Let’s start with our incredibly generous sponsors without whom we wouldn’t have prizes, insurance, or a leg to stand on. Thank you West Liberty Cycles, Pro Bikes, Trek of Pittsburgh, Hutton-Blews Insurance LLC, Dirty Harry’s, Wilderness Voyageurs, The Wheel Mill!! 2014 season of MoM would not have been possible without the support of these folks. Be sure to show them your gratitude with a little business as well.
Next up - the fearless race organizers who graciously took on the prep for each part the 2014 series and made this Head Honcho’s job so much easier. Thank you Dave Krack and Brian Parker for Moraine’s rocky awesomeness, Chris Miceli for a killer MoM style short track at Brady’s, Eric Lundgren for a fast, technical CX course of death at North Park, Joe Malone and Dahn Pahrs for the return of XC at North Park, and Rob Riddell for MoM’s schitzophrenic Super XC - D finale at Ohiopyle. Your hard work made this season stoke-tacular!
Let’s not forget the parks themselves who let us take over their trails and fields for the day and turn it into MoM’s playground. Now that you’ve seen what they have to offer - be sure to visit them again before the 2015 season kicks off. Thank you to the folks at North Park, Brady’s Run, Moraine State Park, Ohiopyle State Park for letting us come back year after year!
And last, but certainly not least - MoM’s incredible community of volunteers. This goes out to everyone who helped to put up some tape, tear down a stake, carry a box, marshall on the course, help out a fellow racer, or anything that you did to make this season run as smoothly as it did. There are too many volunteers for me to name them all, so feel free to add those who deserve a pat on the back for pitching in.
Thank you Tim Traynor, Fred Fischer, Joseph Fraas, RonCheryl Palermo, Dave Krack, Isaac McKeever, and the entire Uni crew, Stacie Truszkowski, Kate Bennett, Jeff Grimm, Bobbi Jo Bywaters, Ann Burr, Andrew Crumpler, Mike Schultz, Chris Mayhew, Michael Frere, Jim Litzinger…..And we can’t forget Mike Briggs for all the awesome photos.
A big THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers and businesses that supported us for the 2014 season. Thanks also to all the racers and spectators for coming out and showing what an awesome off-road scene Western Pennsylvania has.
At long last - the finale! Join us for the final installment of the 2014 Month of Mud series at Ohiopyle this Sunday. Course will feature a MoM-style enduro-ish time trial with the infamous MoM jump and other technical add-ons. Check out the BikeReg page for more info, start times, etc. Registration will take place at Wilderness Voyageurs and shuttles will transport riders and their bikes to the start line at the top of the mountain.
Wilderness Voyageurs will be running shuttles… from 10 AM - 3 PM on Saturday for those who would like to check out the course before hand. Shuttle service is $10 for three runs.
The MoM Finale party will be at the Falls City Pub in Ohiopyle at 4 PM where series awards and prizes will be doled out. The pub is offering a special for all racers $10 for a burger or pulled pork sandwich and a beer. Hope you can join us to celebrate another great season of racing in the woods!
We’ve updated our rules and regulations page. The most important information is listed below, but please check out the whole page. If you have any questions, please email us.
DROP RACE REGULATIONS, POINTS CLASSIFICATIONS AND SERIES TITLE REQUIREMENTS
• Series points are awarded to the top 15 finishers in each class at each event.
• Points are 15 for first, 14 for second, 13 for third down to 1 for fifteenth.
• One only needs to race in four out of five races to contend for series titles this year. If one races all 5 races, the race in which he/she accumulates the lowest points will be automatically dropped.
• The most points in 4 races will win the series title. In the event of a tie breaker, we will include the points accumulated in the fifth or dropped race.
• In order to contend for the series title, a racer must registerfor and start the final race at Ohiopyle. Points for that race may be dropped, however, the racer must be present at the finale in order to qualify for series title and prizes.
• Series Awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony at the end of the final event. The top three points leaders in each class will be awarded plaques, merchandise and/or cash.
Welcome to the 26th year of the Month of Mud. If you don’t know me already, I’m Greta and I’m the chief permit-wrangler, sponsor-solicitor, supplies-buyer, and race-coordinator. In other words, I am MoM’s new mom.
While I am technically the head honcho, I could not pull this race series off without the incredible support of the Month of Mud admin team including, Gary Bywaters, Rob Riddell, Andrew Crumpler, Don Powers, Joe Malone, Matt Tinkey, and Jeff Grimm; and this year’s kick-ass race course designers/set up coordinators - Dave Krack, Brian Parker, Chris Miceli, Eric Lundgren, Don Powers, Joe Malone, and Rob Riddell.
Everyone associated with the race series is a volunteer and we simply could not make it happen without their help.
