month of mud SERIES CLASSES

CLASSES / CATEGORIES

• You may only enter one class per event. It is the racer’s responsibility to register for the correct class.

EXAMPLE = If you are a 46 year old Expert level individual riding a singlespeed bike, you may enter either Expert, Vet Expert, Masters 45+, or Singlespeed, NOT all of them!

• Open Categories are open to all genders

• Age Group Categories - You can register for your Age Group using your RACE AGE. Which is the age you will be on Dec 31st, 2024

• Fat Bike/Clydesdale - 4" tire requirement or 200lbs+

E-BIKE REGULATIONS (THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS....LEARNING AS WE GO....)

As we continue to provide e-bike racing in the Month of Mud series we want it to be a safe but welcoming racing environment for all mountain bike enthusiasts and racers. In order to do so we believe the following standards are fair for our local grassroots series.

• E- Bikes that are USAC UCI or GNCC certified are legal. 

• E-Bikes must pedal assist with a max speed of 20mph.

• Programmable E-Bikes must be set and locked to 750 watts and 20 MPH.
• Throttle mechanisms are prohibited.
• Boost buttons must be removed or disabled.
• No aftermarket modifications will be allowed. 

• E-Bikes must be inspected 30 minutes before the race start.
• E-Bikes MUST be in the off position at the starting line and powered up at the official's instructions.
• Settings must be verified immediately after finishing.
• Any E-Bike that is found to be illegal, rider will forfeit all prizes and points and will be suspended for remaining races. All categories.
• Officials carry the right to test any E-Bike in question. Month of mud is not liable for any damage that may occur during testing. If you withhold your E-Bike to this test, you will be disqualified from the race.  

• Passing etiquette must be followed. Unsportsmanlike behavior, foul riding, use of profanity, or flagrant discourtesy directed at participants, spectators, or officials will result in disqualification.

• Analog bikes have the right of way, you must yield to a racer in a different class to pass you when appropriate and safe to do so.  

• No battery swapping during the race

PROTESTS

• All protests for any racer (analog or e-bike) will need to be submitted in writing to an official no sooner than 15 minutes after you finish your race and before podium announcement are made. 

REGISTRATION
• All racers must complete and sign the online waivers to be eligible to race
• Minors MUST also have a parent or legal guardian sign their Standard Athlete’s Release / Entry Form each day at race registration. Guardians must be present at the race.

• RACE DAY REGISTRATION PRICE INCREASES $10 PER CLASS

NUMBER PLATES

• You will receive a number plate when you check in during the first race you attend.

• YOU WILL USE THIS SAME NUMBER PLATE AT EVERY RACE YOU ATTEND. 

• There will be a $10 charge for replacement number plates.

RACE START TIMES

• Race times will be listed on specific Bike Reg pages as well as individual race pages.

• It is the racer’s responsibility to be at the Start Line on time.

PASSING ETIQUETTE
• Racers actively riding have the right of way over racers walking or pushing their bikes. Pushed bikes should stay on the least rideable part of the trail, though a pushing racer can pass a riding racer if they do not impede them.
• It is the responsibility of the approaching racer to make their presence known, to announce their intention to pass by saying “Rider up” or “On your left (or right),” and to pass safely.
• In the event two riders are vying for position, the leading rider does not have to yield but they cannot physically interfere or intentionally block the overtaking rider's progress.
• Slower riders being lapped by faster categories must yield the trail safely as soon as practical.
• Unsportsmanlike behavior, foul riding, use of profanity, or flagrant discourtesy directed at participants, spectators, or officials will result in disqualification.
• Riders experiencing mechanical issues or crashes must immediately move off the active trail and out of the way of approaching racers.

FINISH LINE
• Riders are required to clear out of the finish line area after finishing. Please keep the finish line area open for other finishers.
• DO NOT go through the finish line unless you are finishing the race. Please avoid this area in warm-ups and cool downs. 

RESULTS

• Preliminary results will be available per category after every rider in that category has finished.

• Official results will be posted at monthofmud.com as soon as possible.
• The results are not considered official until they appear posted on monthofmud.com

• If you DNF (DO NOT FINISH) Please notify the timer or race director. 

DROP RACE REGULATIONS, POINTS CLASSIFICATIONS AND SERIES TITLE REQUIREMENTS

• Points awarded at each race: 15 points for 1st, 14 points for 2nd, 13 points for 3rd..etc.

• One only needs to race in four races to contend for series titles. If one races all races, the races in which he/she accumulates the lowest points will be automatically dropped.

• The most points in 4 races will win the series title. In the event of a tie breaker, we will include the points accumulated in the fifth or dropped race.

• In order to contend for the series title, a racer must register for and start the final race at Ohiopyle. Points for that race may be dropped, however, the racer must be present at the finale in order to qualify for series title and awards

• Series Awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony at the end of the final event. The top three points leaders in each class will be awarded cash payout & prizes.

OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF
• Racers are REQUIRED to wear a helmet at all times while they are on their bike. This includes warm-ups and cool-downs.
• Racers will be allowed outside help (replacement bike, assistance with repairs, etc.) while on the course. We want you to finish.
• Any use of in-ear headphones, airpods, etc is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN! Use of these items will result in an immediate disqualification.

• You must ride the entire course. Short cuts will result in disqualification.
• Any decisions of the Series Director, Race Promoter(s), Registration Staff, Marshal(s), Race Official(s), Law Enforcement Officers and any other official Event Staff are FINAL and WITHOUT recourse.
